Over the past few years my life has been dominated by reflux and throat hypersensitivity.
What started as a persistent sore throat turned into trouble swallowing, scopes and a whole lot of anxiety.

I created The Reflux Recovery Project partly to keep myself sane — and partly because I’d been told the things I’m learning now.
This isn’t a medical site. It’s simply a record of my recovery, and what’s genuinely helping me feel better.
Why I’m writing all this down
When reflux or hypersensitivity hits, it does something strange:
your body feels unsafe, your mind panics, and suddenly you’re aware of every swallow, every breath, every sensation.
I realised I was spending more time worrying about the sensations (and at times trying to ignore them) than actually healing from them.
Writing this project helps me:
- Stay grounded
- Understand what’s happening in my body
- Reduce the fear around symptoms
- Track what actually makes things quieter
If any of that helps you too, then the project is doing its job.
What I’ve learned so far
I’m not a medical professional — I’m just a normal person trying to heal. But living through this has taught me a few things:
- Symptoms aren’t always caused by acid
- Anxiety and fixating on symptoms makes sensations louder
- Calming the body often helps more than “fixing” the body
- Simple meals and gentle routines go a long way
- Recovery is rarely linear, and that’s okay
This project is where I share those lessons as honestly as I can.
My background (and why I write like this)
I’ve spent over 15 years working in research and analytics, writing clear explanations for complex things every day.
Now I’m using my experience here to:
- Break down confusing topics
- Separate fear from reality
- Make sense of symptoms without catastrophising
- Explain things simply and calmly
It’s the kind of writing I needed when I was at my worst.
What you’ll find on this site
No medical advice. No miracle cures. Just the things that are helping me recover:
- Gentle meals that soothe, not irritate
- Tools that calm the nervous system
- Notes about throat hypersensitivity
- Personal reflections on the ups and downs
- What’s working, and what I’m learning along the way
And I keep everything as minimal and readable as possible — because when you’re overwhelmed, simplicity helps.
If you’re going through this too
You’re not alone, even if it feels like it.
Reflux, hypersensitivity, and persistent throat symptoms can be frustrating and at time terrifying.
I get it. I’ve lived it. I’m still working through it.
If something here brings you a bit of clarity or comfort, that means a lot to me.

Every week I send a short, gentle note about recovery — what I’m trying, what I’m learning, and a reminder to stay patient with yourself.
